A black house in the desert is definitely an unusual sight. The story of this beautiful residence is very beautiful. Located on a site which presents tough challenges which were the reason why the previous owners gave up trying, this modern house was designed to supersede the rocks that were scraped away in the procedure as a shadow or a negative.

The contemporary black business firm was designed and built by Oller & Pejic Architecture. Trying to notice the correct blueprint was a challenge and required a lot of research.

The architects chose a minimalist approach and they wanted it to be in sync with the landscape. When designing the layout, they wanted the experience of moving through the business firm to exist reminiscent of traversing the site outside. The rooms were arranged in a linear sequence and the kitchen and dining area were placed in the center. In the center of the house is a courtyard which serves equally an intermediate space.

The fact that the house is black has a big impact on the overall views. During the solar day, the landscape is more than prominent and the house goes almost unnoticed. At night, the lighting and the stars course a beautiful backdrop. The interior of the house is also dark. The walls are blackness throughout and so are the floors and ceilings. The huge windows and glass walls allow in tons of natural light and the brightly colored furniture and accent elements create middle-catching contrasts.
